James “Rabbit” Fulghum Instructional Hitting Camp

By Trey Cash

Lenoir Community College has named its baseball camp after one of its founders.
The Snow Hill Hitting Clinic name has been changed to The James “Rabbit” Fulghum Instructional Baseball Hitting Camp.
Fulghum and Howard McCullough founded the clinic in 1988. McCullough was a young assistant baseball coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill at the time and is now a scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“Me and him wanted to help the youth and promote the game of baseball in eastern North Carolina,” said Fulghum.
“We started in 1988 with one clinic that was held for two days at Greene Central. It quickly grew to where we had three clinics at Greene Central, one at Ragsdale, and one at Greensboro, with 100 kids going to each clinic,” said Fulghum.
“The Snow Hill Hitting Clinic is a great camp that has taught lots of players over the years the art of hitting a baseball. Coach Fulghum has been a driving part of the camp for many years. As a former camper and now an instructor, it has been an honor to a part of such a special event,” Greene Central jayvee baseball coach David Bryant said.
“We had great collegiate baseball players attend our clinic,” Fulghum said.
“We had a great camp staff that consisted of Major League scouts and coaches, college coaches, and high school coaches all together to help the youth,” Fulghum said.
Such major league players as Trot Nixon, Tom Easily, and Willie Bynum have attended.
The James “Rabbit” Fulghum Instructional Baseball Hitting Camp took place at Lancer Field on the campus of Lenoir Community College November 17th and 18th. A total of 145 kids attended.
“It was an honor for the camp to be named after me; it shows how much respect people have for me in eastern North Carolina baseball community,” Fulghum said.
