12/19/07 Pettaway Named Athlete of the Week
By Trey Cash
Sophomore Shonice Pettaway has been named Greene Central’s Athlete of the Week for the third week in December.
“Shonice is a second year starter and has really shown me the leadership we need,” Greene Central’s women basketball head coach Tonya Winfield said.
Pettaway started playing basketball because it was a family tradition.
“Everybody on my father’s side played; it was almost mandatory to play basketball,” said Pettaway.
“Pettaway is a great contribution to the Lady Rams. Her ball handling and shot accuracy is dynamic for our team,” teammate Darneka Waters said.
"Shonice has had to take on a role different from the one she was in last year because she is one of our captains. Every game she has had double figures, and she is just a good all around player,” Winfield said.
“My goals for the Lady Rams are to win more games and just have fun,” Pettaway said.
Pettaway is currently taking Honors Geometry, Honors Civics and Economics, Fine Crafts, and Computer Applications I.
Pettaway wants to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or East Carolina University and major in Art.
Pettaway is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Pettaway of Walstonburg.
