12/12/07 Waters named Athlete of the Week
By Trey Cash
Freshman Bobby Waters has been named Greene Central’s Athlete of the Week for the fourth week in November.
He was selected for scoring 24 points in the season opener of the GCHS men’s basketball varsity season on November 18th.
“Bobby is a great player who plays with his heart and gives 110 percent every time he steps on the court,” GCHS men’s basketball varsity coach David Laton said.
Waters started playing basketball at the age of 10, when all of his friends started playing.
“It was fun, and I enjoyed it. Afterwards, the only place you could find me was on the basketball court,” Waters said.
“He has shown that he can step up and be a team leader and team player, even though he is only a freshman,” Laton said.
“He is a great player that works hard for every point he gets. You can tell that he loves the game. He has potential to be a great basketball player, and he is also a great person off the court,” senior Marcus Lee said.
“It has been a pleasure to coach Bobby; he has a bright future ahead of him,” Laton said.
Waters is currently taking Automotive Technology I, Earth Science, World History, and Introduction to Math. He is currently undecided about college.
Waters is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivory Waters of Snow Hill.
